Students & staff say 'Thank you'
My husbandsband John and I left our home in Witchford in February 2005 to work with Voluntary Service Overseas in China where we are teaching English and training teachers. We are based in Gansu, one of the poorest provinces of China. Our students come from the rural areas and most will go back to their villages as teachers.
Since last year we have been engaged in setting up a much needed English library and resource centre for our students. This is now established, and although still small is proving very useful. Ely library kindly donated a quantity of books for our centre, for which we are very grateful, and with the aid of a monetary donation from Wilkinson Store in the Cloisters we were able to ship these out,and they are now in great demand by our students. The Isle of Ely Lions Club has also promised us some support.
We would like to say thank you to these supporters and assure them that the students here appreciate their help. Now, three times a week our little library is busy as young people who are very keen to improve their knowledge of English and of the world generally, seek out and borrow books and audio tapes.
