Party Policies: Stevenage District Council Elections 2008
The Conservative Party
Local Conservatives will work hard to improve our quality of life.
Although it is good news that the campaign to keep the Lister Hospital open was a success, it is bitterly disappointing that local people are being forced to live with an underfunded local health service because the government thinks everybody in Hertfordshire is wealthy. Decisions affecting local health services should not be taken by distant politicians – they should be taken by the people who use and work in our local hospitals and surgeries.
Conservatives have been working hard with residents to improve safety throughout Stevenage. We are currently campaigning to ensure potholes are repaired, roads are resurfaced as necessary and streetlights and footpaths in the town are maintained on a regular basis.
We are campaigning for a greater police presence on the streets and additional CCTV cameras which are proving very successful in reducing petty crime and anti-social behaviour throughout our town.
Increase in utility bills, council tax and mortgage rates are making it harder for people to get on the housing ladder. So the next Conservative Government will abolish stamp duty for first time buyers on homes under £250,000.
