Party Policies: Stevenage District Council Elections 2008
The Green Party
The Green Party stands for a just, equitable and sustainable society. Other parties talk about prosperity, but our policies are focused on well-being and happiness. We want to move much faster than other parties on measures to restrict greenhouse gas emissions, reduce our dependence on oil, treat all people fairly and develop a thriving and participatory community spirit. Often all it takes is one councillor to put forward a good idea for it to be accepted - without a Green voice on our council many ideas and arguments are simply not being put forward or are being put forward too late.
Tom Moore, Green Party candidate says, "I want to let people use their vote to show environmental issues are becoming more important to them. The Green Party offers real alternatives. I want to encourage others who are disillusioned with current council policies to stand in other wards throughout Stevenage in the future. As a ‘purpose built New Town’, Stevenage has many advantages and it is the councillors’ responsibility to ensure that we use these wisely and promote appropriate development of our town into the future. Stevenage has excellent transport links within the town and to the rest of the country. We are also very privileged to have so much green and open space in the town, something that needs to be protected. We are surrounded by excellent farmland and should develop strong links with local agriculture."
