At Archant, we recognise that our people are our most valuable asset who make sure our publications are successful in the communities within which we work.

Whatever department you work in you will receive an induction which will introduce you to the company, help you understand other departments and settle you into your new team. This will mean that you will be able to start to feel part of Archant as quickly as possible.

You will also be given a development plan and will have ongoing conversations with your manager with regards to this. Your training will then be unique to you and will be provided through a variety of methods such as classroom, on the job, coaching etc.

We also have an Archant Academy which provides a variety of management courses and sales training.

NewspapersThe Archant Academy

The Academy was launched in January 2005 and comprises a new generation of management training for Archant companies. Through the Academy managers are given the opportunity to work towards qualifications which are accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management. The courses provided cover a wide range of topics including Recruitment and Selection, Finance Skills, Managing Performance and Project Management.

Feedback is gained upon the effectiveness of these courses on a regular basis:

"The trainers were very good and kept up the interest by using different teaching styles, their methods certainly kept you on your toes, got you thinking and you didn't quite know what to expect next".

Sales training

Our sales department has a career development path which employees are coached and guided through by their line manager. This programme provides a clear development route from entry level sales consultant to Account Manager and Team Leader.

All of our sales employees have an induction programme which lasts for one week. This induction provides employees with knowledge of the Archant products and the core sales skills that they will need to complete their role. This is followed by a two day top up course which is completed within the first year of employment.

Darren IstedIn addition we have introduced an external sales trainer to provide our sales teams with a two day learning event designed to help them provide a consultative approach to their clients.

We were confident that after appearing on GMTV, BBC, Daily Mirror and having a number of sales books published the trainer chosen would provide something special and the feedback received showed that this was the case.

"The training was fresh and innovative. The trainer was entertaining and enlightening and opened the mind to new ideas"

"I think this is the best course I've ever been on. I feel really inspired".
