Profile of Joanne DeDominicis - HR Assistant
How long have you been with the Archant?
1 ½ years
What attracted you to join?
Location was key as I was moving from Belfast to England and didn't want to travel to London every day. Also when I came for my interview I found the people I met to be very friendly and I felt I would fit in well, it came across as somewhere I would like to work and thankfully for me I was chosen!!
What is like to work here?
Personally I love it, there is a friendly atmosphere, and people are helpful. I have regular monthly one to one meetings with my manager which are great should we have any issues that need to be resolved.
How would you describe a typical day?
Busy, this is one of the things that I love about my job. Working in HR two days are never the same. Duties that I carry out on a daily basis include: absence management, operating the personnel database, issuing new starter packs / letters etc, ensuring staff are on system for payroll, exit interviews - to name but a few!!
What is the best part about your job?
To date the best part of my job was being given the opportunity to go to college and study allowing me to gain my Certificate in Personnel Practice. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and have never been given the chance. The company backed me financially with this and I believe this shows that Archant want to invest in people and help them develop.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
As you can imagine the role of HR is challenging in all areas, every day a new issue arises. It is very challenging to try and get to the bottom of issues but also very rewarding when the issue is resolved and the employee leaves happy.
